While The Other Half and I were ‘researching’ on the peribahasa, we got to thinking that maybe peribahasa is proverb not idiom kot? Even The Other Half pun ingat they are the same🙂. And then we were just throwing out all these proverbs which contradict each other which was in a way quite ironic🙂. Maybe orang tua2 dulu2 yang buat peribahasa or proverbs ni just made them up to suit them and their situations, hehehe. Like for example:

You can’t teach old dogs new tricks’ which is totally the opposite of ‘You are never too old to learn’. So, macam mana lah tu kan! Patutlah I susah nak master English proverbs ni, contradictory betul, hehehe…..😉. Kalau dalam BM, ‘You are never too old to learn’ is ‘Menuntut ilmu biar sampai ke liang lahad’ ye? Or ada ke peribahasa tu or did I just make it up?🙂. So, what’s the similar peribahasa in BM for ‘You can’t teach old dogs new tricks’? Kalau ada, maknanya orang tua2 dolu2 tak kira lah Mat Saleh ke Melayu ke, sama aje ye tak, making up peribahasa to suit their situations at that time, hahaha…..

Satu lagi peribahasa melayu yang I suka sangat2 ialah ‘Masuk kandang kambing mengembek, masuk kandang kerbau menguak’ which kalau literal translation into English  teruk benor bunyinya ‘when you enter a goat’s pen, you bleat, when you enter a buffalo’s paddock, you bellow’, hehehe. But the equivalent proverb in English is ‘When in Rome do as Romans do’. Sikit nya panjang ke the peribahasa in Malay but the English version pendek aje, hehehe..

(Uwaaaahhhhhh, bila pulak I tukar mode and jadi cikgu BI ni, hahahahaha….)

Before I tersesat dengan lebih jauh lagi and start teaching people grammar and what not, I better tayang what I made for dinner tonite. Hari ni I puasa lagi so biasalah kan tekak orang puasa ni mengalahkan tekak orang mengidam🙂. I made roti jala and kari ayam. For The Little Misses I made butter chicken. Miss 10 makan 8 keping roti jala and Miss 5 makan 5/6 keping roti jala! Memang kenyang lah diaorang makan roti jala tadi, hehehe… Miss 5 dah siap mintak nak bawak roti jala esok for her lunch at school. Orang kat M’sia buat roti jala for minum petang or high-tea or sarapan, I buat untuk dinner🙂. Takpe asal kenyang kan!
